Palaplast underfloor heating

UNDERFLOOR HEATING

Underfloor heating is a system in which the floor is heated to a low temperature and radiates heat. Available in 2 main forms, electric and hydraulic system. The operation of hydraulic underfloor heating system is based on the circulation of hot water with temperature between 35⁰C – 45⁰C through a network of specialized plastic pipes that run through the floor, converting it into a large surface radiator with mild thermal output.

Underfloor heating can be applied to a wide range of building installations, from domestic to business premises, public buildings, industrial facilities, hotels, etc. Its wide application is due to the uniform distribution of heat from the floor to the roof; therefore it can be applied in buildings with high internal ceiling.

Underfloor heating has a number of advantages:

  • Uniform distribution of heat in the area, as it diffuses upwards through radiation (60%-65%) and secondarily through transport (35%-40%). Furthermore temperature differences in the area are reduced, since the network of pipes covers the entire surface of the floor.
  • Healthier living conditions. Radiation of heat from floor to ceiling provides the ideal distribution for people, i.e. warm feet – cool head. Furthermore, the prevention of air currents, as created during the use of common radiators, leads to maintenance of air humidity in the room as well as lack of dust circulation.
  • Low operating costs. The low temperature of the water circulating in the pipe network (35⁰C-45⁰C) and the uniform radiation from floor to ceiling made it possible to achieve comfortable living conditions in a room with an average temperature lower by at least 2⁰C than usual.
  • Environmental friendly, as the system operates with low temperature water (35⁰C-45⁰C) within the pipe network in relation to the water temperatures required in common radiators (65⁰C-75⁰C), therefore whatever energy source is used is for fewer hours, with obvious positive effects on the energy footprint and the burden on the environment.
  • Space saving and discreet heating system. Τhe absence of radiators allows full exploitation of room space and reduces the possibilities of injury to young children and the elderly.
  • Although the cost of installing an underfloor heating system is higher than conventional installation with radiators, its depreciation is short-term, as it minimizes energy consumption and provides low cost building maintenance.
