World Water Day 2022 – “Groundwater – Making the invisible visible”

World Water Day 2022 is dedicated to groundwater and its importance as one of the main sources of supply for drinking water, irrigation for agriculture, industry and sewage systems, and for maintaining the overall balance of ecosystems.

Groundwater are those quantities found underground in aquifers, feeding springs, rivers, lakes and wetlands, and then seep into oceans. They are mainly replenished from rain and snowfall infiltrating the ground.

The constant population growth and their needs for water and food, the intense urbanization and the economic development have led to a significant decrease in their reserves, while at the same time, the problem of their chemical contamination makes pumping and use even more difficult.

Making small changes at a collective level in our daily lives and in the ways we consume water, can only lead to positive results for us, our ecosystems and our planet.
