WORLD WATER DAY 2021
What does water mean to you?
It was the same day in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when the United Nations established World Water Day for the first time. Now, with this crucial question, the UN tries to awaken all of us in order to think and answer what water means to each one and every one of us.
A question that seems easy yet can’t be answered simply. That is because water means many different things to each one of us, since we are all different. The importance of water, which is necessary for our own survival, depends on the geographical distribution, the gender, the traditions, the social context in which we live and our local environment.
Currently in the world, 785 million people (almost 1 in 9) lack direct access to safe water, while 144 million people depend on surface water to meet their basic needs. People, living without access to water at home, face great difficulties in fulfilling their basic needs and must seek for it on a daily basis.
This phenomenon during the COVID-19 pandemic is even more important, as the lack of access to water leads to reduced hygiene. Globally, 3 billion people do not have access to water and soap to wash their hands at home, with immediate consequences on protecting themselves against viruses and diseases. This year the #SafeHands campaign was launched to raise awareness concerning the valuable shield against COVID-19, water and soap.
It cannot be stressed enough that we must all be aware and considerate of the massive significance of this precious resource.
With the use of drippers, driplines, sprinklers, microsprinklers and hydroponic networks, we strengthen the effort to confront the reckless use of water in agriculture and spread the message that «every drop counts». Palaplast, for 40 years, supports the effort of saving water through its proper use, by irrigating efficiently, reliably and successfully cultivations in Greece and all over the world.
What does water mean to you?
Stop reckless waste!!
Spread the importance of water for you and promote this global message, enhancing the 2021 World Water Day campaign.
